QQI-SHIM

• QQI test pieces are used in magnetic particle inspection (MPI) to verify field direction and relative magnetic strength through artificial defects.

• Their thin and flexible design allows them to conform to curved surfaces, making them suitable for testing various part geometries. They are typically secured with permanent adhesives for stability during inspection.

• Each set includes five QQI indicator shims, ensuring convenient and reliable testing.

Instructions for Using QQI Shims:

1. Package Handling: Keep the package sealed until ready for use. QQIs are coated with a refined mineral base oil for corrosion prevention.

2. Oil Removal: Before application, clean the QQI shims using acetone or an appropriate solvent to remove the protective oil.

3. Surface Preparation: Ensure both the part and the shim are clean and dry before application.

4. Shim Placement:

• Position the QQI flaw-side down, ensuring close contact with the part. Secure it on all four sides for stability.

• The opposite surface of the flaw must remain uncovered, with no air gaps between the indicator and the part.

5. Attachment Method: Use non-fluorescent tape or a strong permanent adhesive to hold the shim in place.

6. Removal: If needed, remove the adhesive by soaking in acetone.
